The Fox Theatre in Walsenburg, CO was born July 24, 1917, with the name – Star Theater. This was the time of the “silent movies” and in 1923 Wurlitzer-Hope Jones pipe organ was installed to add some musical drama as the the villain prepared to do his evil deeds.In July 1929, talking pictures were introduced, the interior redecorated into a Spanish theme and in August 1929 is was renamed the Valencia Theatre. In 1941 the building was remodeled again at which time the Art Deco facade was added and it was rechristened “The Fox.”
The Fox has seen many ups and downs during its soon to be 100 years of life. But the Ups are happening! The theater has a new digital projection system and you can enjoy a first run movie for only $5! The theater has also developed a Performance Arts Program.
