Second Saturday Poetry Open Mic with PW Covington
The Corazón de Trinidad Creative District is pleased to announce another amazing Second Saturday Open Mic for poets and all literary souls. The evening begins at 7 pm with featured writer PW Covington; the microphone then opens to all who would like to share their creative literary efforts.
PW Covington writes in the Beat tradition of the North American highway. For over two decades, PW has captivated audiences from Havana, Cuba to San Francisco’s Beat Museum with his engaging reading style and unvarnished subject matter. Covington brings DIY and unapologetically punk values into poetry spaces, challenging assumptions and rigidity within the art form itself. In 2019, his collection North Beach and Other Stories was named a Finalist in LGBTQ+ Fiction by the International Book Awards. Covington has had poems recently published by the Westchester Writers Workshop (NY), the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse, Mad Swirl (Dallas), and the Rio Grande Valley International Poetry Festival (McAllen, TX).
A self-avowed, long-time “Deadhead”, PW Covington recently donned his Editor’s cap with Hercules Publishing to bring together Poetry is Dead: An Inclusive Anthology of Deadhead Poetry. The volume contains mostly free-verse poems submitted by fans and literal followers of psychedelic rockers The Grateful Dead. Spanning generations and all of the band’s configurations and incarnations, this is poetry by Deadheads, for Deadheads.
PW Covington moved to Northern New Mexico in 2017 and remains involved in a variety of progressive and social causes, including homelessness outreach and prevention and veteran’s advocacy.
