SUMMARY:Race Across America Rolls Through Huerfano County
DESCRIPTION:Cheer on the world’s toughest endurance cyclists as the Race Across America (RAAM) rolls through Huerfano County! This legendary nonstop ultra-distance race crosses 12 states from coast to coast\, covering more than 3\,000 miles\, with the Highway of Legends Scenic Byway as one of its dramatic high-elevation passages. \nCyclists are expected to crest Cuchara Pass and roll through La Veta and Cuchara between June 19 and June 23\, 2026. RAAM riders climb the Highway of Legends Scenic Byway from the south\, reaching nearly 9\,994 feet at the top of Cuchara Pass before descending into the Cucharas Valley and continuing east toward the plains. \nThis is a free\, family-friendly spectator experience. Pack a folding chair\, bring a cowbell\, and head to downtown La Veta or up Highway 12 toward Cuchara to catch a glimpse of these incredible athletes. DESCRIPTION:The Delta Sonics Blues Band takes a Chicago Blues base and seasons it with Swing\, Delta\, N’awlins R&B and some early Rock n’ Roll. They’ve been playing in Colorado since 1992\, and have established themselves as one of the finest blues acts in the area with their solid musicianship and exciting live performances. \nAl Chesis supplies vocals & foot stomping showmanship but it’s his harmonica playing that grabs you. Al has played in Colorado since the mid-1980’s after moving to Denver from Washington\, D.C.  He has also done studio work for two PBS movie soundtracks and Denver area radio stations\, including KBCO\, KUVO and the FOX. Al has toured locally and nationally with Muddy Waters’ son Big Bill Morganfield\, appearing at venues in Canada\, Utah\, Florida and Wisconsin\, as well as at the prestigious Chicago Blues Festival in 2002.   He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Blues Society in 2022. \nBob Pellegrino supplies the dazzling\, slide guitar. Bob was the Colorado Blues Society’s best slide guitar player in three years in a row.
