Walsenburg Trails

From Walsenburg, take a quick hike in Lathrop State Park or head north for the more arduous, yet adventurous, Lily Lake Trail.

#1 – Hogback Nature Trail
2 miles   |   Gentle

The Hogback Nature Trail at Lathrop State Park winds through sandstone formations before climbing up the rocky Hogback Ridge that forms the park’s northern boundary.

As the trail follows the top of the ridge, majestic views of the Spanish Peaks, Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountain Ranges fill the landscape.

Along the two-mile trail, marker posts have been installed to accompany a self-guided brochure containing information about the area’s plant and animal life and its history.

#2 – Fiesta Park/Cuchara River Trail
.61 miles   |   Gentle

This nature trail follows the Cuchara River, starting at the stone wall behind the Huerfano County Community Center in Walsenburg.

#3 – Second Street Trail
2 miles   |   Gentle

This two-mile, gravel surface trail starts at 2nd Street and ends at the Walsenburg Golf Course. This trail meanders through pasture land and open range.

#4 – Lily Lake Trail
3.7 miles   |   Difficult

Walk through a large meadow with views of Blanca Massif. After one mile of flat terrain, continue up through the forests, where you’ll begin to gain 1,500 feet in elevation for almost three miles. Cross some boulders and a river before arriving at Lily Lake at 12,350 feet.
