zAs the crisp mountain air rolls into Spanish Peaks Country, November invites you to slow down, sip something warm, and soak in the small-town magic that defines this corner of Colorado. From pumpkin-spiced brews to twinkling lights on Main Street, Huerfano County knows how to make fall feel special.
Sip Your Way Through the Season
Nothing says fall like a warm drink in hand and a view of the Spanish Peaks dusted with snow. Across Walsenburg and La Veta, local coffee shops and breweries are celebrating the flavors of the season.
Start your morning in Walsenburg at RegalBurg, where you’ll find fresh Apple Cinnamon Bread and a rotating menu of seasonal drinks like Pumpkin Spice Cappuccinos and Pumpkin Patch Cold Brews. A few blocks away, Gub Gub’s Pizza & Ice Cream is serving up something unexpected—Pumpkin Pie Cold Brew Coffee and creamy autumn milkshakes that taste like dessert in a cup.
For cozy café charm, head to Serendipity Coffee House, where cinnamon rolls and Pumpkin Spice Latte Frappes pair perfectly with friendly conversation and local art. And when it’s time for something stronger, Crafty Canary Brewery has you covered with locally crafted ciders that taste just like autumn in the Rockies. Over in La Veta, Mountain Merman Brewing Company pours seasonal favorites like Butter Beer and Oktoberfest brews, best enjoyed by the fire or with friends after a day of exploring.

A La Veta Thanksgiving
When Thanksgiving arrives, La Veta offers an alternative option that make the holiday both delicious and stress-free.
If you’d rather dine out than cook at home, Aly’s Restaurant will be open on Thanksgiving Day, serving a festive holiday menu in a warm, welcoming setting.
Whether you’re cooking, picking up, or sitting down to a warm meal out, La Veta makes Thanksgiving easy—and memorable.
Light Up the Holidays in Walsenburg
The holiday season officially begins the day after Thanksgiving with the 36th Annual Parade of Lights in Downtown Walsenburg. On Friday, November 28, at 6:30 p.m., Main Street comes alive with twinkling lights, music, and festive cheer. After the parade, gather for the community tree lighting ceremony at Gub Gub’s Pizza and Ice Cream—then stroll the downtown shops, many of which will be open late for holiday shopping.
It’s a small-town celebration that captures everything we love about the season: warmth, light, and togetherness.
Celebrate Small Business Saturday
On Saturday, November 29, skip the big box stores and celebrate Shop Small Business Saturday right here in Huerfano County. Local merchants, makers, and artists are opening their doors with special deals, extended hours, and plenty of holiday cheer.
Whether you’re searching for handmade jewelry, locally roasted coffee, or mountain-inspired art, you’ll find something truly one-of-a-kind. Bring a friend, grab a latte, and spend the day exploring the shops that make our towns so unique.
Deck the Halls in La Veta
The celebrations continue into December with the La Veta Merchants’ 2nd Annual Holiday Fest on Friday, December 5. This joyful evening kicks off with the return of the Jingle & Strut Holiday Costume Parade & Contest, where locals don their most festive attire—think ugly sweaters, elf hats, reindeer antlers, or anything that jingles.
Downtown La Veta will be buzzing with music, lights, and laughter as shops stay open late with special deals and prize drawings. Santa will be in town from 4 to 6 p.m., and the evening will feature tree lighting, caroling, and delicious holiday treats.
It’s a perfect blend of community spirit and mountain-town magic.
