Community Geology Hike

Experience the landscape through the eyes of a geologist on a guided hike led by renowned educators Lon Abbott and Sabrina Kainz. Along the trail, you’ll discover the powerful forces that created the dramatic ridges, mountains, and rock formations surrounding us—and learn to read the stories written in the stone beneath your feet.

Bonus! Every geology hike participant will receive a jeweler’s loupe on a lanyard to keep, making it easy to examine rocks and minerals up close long after the hike ends. Participants will also receive a snack bag filled with goodies and Lathrop State Park swag to enjoy after the hike.

Plan on a 90-minute hike. The quoted time for this event includes travel time on the bus to and from Lathrop State Park.

Open to La Veta students (4th grade and older), parents, school staff, and all community members in Huerfano County.
