Race Across America Rolls Through Huerfano County

Cheer on the world’s toughest endurance cyclists as the Race Across America (RAAM) rolls through Huerfano County! This legendary nonstop ultra-distance race crosses 12 states from coast to coast, covering more than 3,000 miles, with the Highway of Legends Scenic Byway as one of its dramatic high-elevation passages.

Cyclists are expected to crest Cuchara Pass and roll through La Veta and Cuchara between June 19 and June 23, 2026. RAAM riders climb the Highway of Legends Scenic Byway from the south, reaching nearly 9,994 feet at the top of Cuchara Pass before descending into the Cucharas Valley and continuing east toward the plains.

This is a free, family-friendly spectator experience. Pack a folding chair, bring a cowbell, and head to downtown La Veta or up Highway 12 toward Cuchara to catch a glimpse of these incredible athletes. Cyclists race 24 hours a day, so riders may pass through at any time of day or night.
